When Cody was first taken to University Hospital in San Antonio on December 7, 2005, following a roll-over collision. He was in critical condition with head injuries and his chances of survival were very slim. His intercranial pressure was rising to levels that could have caused convulsions and a complete shutdown of Cody's body. He was placed in a medically induced coma to allow the brain to rest and alleviate this danger. Cody's intercranial pressure eventually began to drop and stablized. He was brought out of the drug induced coma with great hopes that he would awake. His vital signs stabalized and he was able to breathe on his own. He fought hard and with the help of thousands of prayers, love and support he kept on improving although his deep sleep continued. He was then placed in the care of Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he would spend the next 33 months in a non-responsive coma. Cody battled tenacious urinary tract infections, severe atrophy and never ending chest congestion. On September 11, 2008, Cody was finally free to join his Creator in Heaven and leave his broken body behind. His suffering and pain had ended. He now could laugh, dance and smile again with his savior Jesus Christ.
Cody was a 1998 Graduate of LBJ High School in Johnson City, Texas and a 2004 graduate of Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He had a gift with those who were disadvantaged, handicapped or challenged working with brain injured adults or behavioral challenged youth. He was a source of laughter, hope, love, energy and joy to all who knew him. He will be missed by many here on earth, but we guarantee he will be the first to welcome you to heaven.
The family thanks all of those who lifted up Cody Wayne Young and we celebrate his 28 years with us! He touched more people in his short time among us than many will touch in their entire lives.
